Previously, a 56-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter went to the Jasin District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Melaka to file a police report after their car was hit from behind at kilometre 174.8 of the North-South Expressway.

As we reported, the woman was allegedly turned away because she was wearing a skirt, forcing her to buy a pair of pants at a nearby mall to proceed with the police report.

“The two women involved were not injured”

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar later spoke up and confirmed the incident, which happened on Monday (8 December) at 5 PM.

He explained that the public is expected to follow the dress code at police counters, but exceptions will be made in emergencies or situations requiring urgent action.

“The two women involved were not injured. At 5:40 PM, the daughter returned to the Jasin IPD with her mother, dressed more modestly, and was allowed to enter to file a police report,” he said.

“No woman should be denied a police report for wearing a skirt”

Following the incident, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri addressed the incident, stressing that no woman should be denied the right to file a police report simply because of what she’s wearing.

Taking to her X page, she added that her ministry welcomes an internal investigation and hopes the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) enforces rules in a more compassionate and people-focused way.

“This includes protecting the dignity and safety of everyone, especially women and children. No woman should be denied the right to file a police report just because of her clothing.

“If it’s not an urgent matter, no one goes to a police station to make a report just for fun,” she wrote.
