The nation was shocked by the news of a gang rape in a classroom in Melaka involving a 15-year-old victim and four 17-year-old suspects.
With all suspects apprehended by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Education (MOE) has acknowledged the incident and vowed to take the strictest action against the offenders if found guilty. In an official statement issued by Minister Fadhlina Sidek yesterday (11 October), she affirmed that the Ministry will not compromise on such horrific acts and that justice will be served.

“The Ministry takes this matter seriously, and it is now being handled by the police. The suspects are currently in remand to assist with the investigation.”
Fadhlina added that the MOE is fully cooperating with the authorities, and both the district and state education departments have been reminded to do the same. She also urged teachers in all schools to strictly follow the guidelines for managing sexual misconduct cases to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Protecting the victim’s privacy
The victim was reportedly gang-raped by two of the suspects, while the other two filmed the ordeal and stood guard near the classroom stairs. The video was circulated among students, prompting a teacher to alert the police. According to a report by Sin Chew, Fadhlina said she would be visiting Malacca today (12 October) to better understand the situation.
Fadhlina also urged the public to respect the victim’s privacy. Regarding the circulation of the video online, she called on the relevant authorities to take appropriate action.
