Take a look at your bookshelf – chances are, you might have some that are collecting dust or maybe even new ones that you bought but never touched! If you’re not planning to read any of them anymore, why not give them away?

Not sure where you can drop them off? Here’s one place you can do so: Publika Shopping Gallery. That’s right, folks. According to The Star, a book drive called “BukuDrive” is being held at Publika and it’s organised by UEM Sunrise Bhd in conjunction with World Book Day 2019, which falls on 23rd April this year.

The aim is to collect books for its “BukuHub”, which will help enhance the B40 community’s living environment as well as cultivate the good habit of reading. This marks UEM Sunrise’s first CSR flagship programme and community project, and they’re planning to set up seven more in 2019. So KL-ites, you know what to do – time to Marie-Kondo your bookshelf and put your new, unwanted, and pre-loved books to better use!

FYI, this book drive will reportedly be held throughout the year. The public will be able to drop off their books in several boxes that will be strategically placed around the mall, so do keep a lookout for them.

According to UEM Sunrise CEO Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, BukuHub first debuted in the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Uda Utama, Johor, and it was held in support of the National Community Policy (DKN), which was introduced by the government.

He was quoted by the daily as saying,

“It was aimed at improving the overall living environment of the B40 group and adding more facilities in affordable housing developments.” Sounds like a good plan!

It looks like Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh is also fully supportive of this initiative as she said, “I hope BukuHub will also become a socially inclusive programme by engaging the local communities regularly and providing the necessary assistance to continuously improve community participation and foster shared prosperity.” We hope so too!
