Every four years, football fans wait eagerly for the international World Cup tournament and during this period, there will be all sorts of predictions on which team will be winning the match. In fact, people would even use various animals to choose the winning teams and perhaps one of the most famous animals is Paul, a common octopus at the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany.

Paul managed to predict about a dozen matches for both World Cup 2010 and Euro 2008 before he passed away due to natural causes when he was two years old. RIP Paul.
Now, a new animal has appeared and made a name for itself for correctly predicting all of Japan’s World Cup results so far. Rabio, a giant Pacific octopus in Japan was caught by Kimio Abe near the coast of Obira, Japan, last month (June 2018).

The fisherman had experimented by putting Rabio in a paddling pool and had the octopus choose the winner from the different baskets marked as win, lose or draw. The octopus chose the baskets accordingly and predicted the correct results for three of Japan’s matches including the win against Colombia, the draw with Senegal and the loss with Poland, BBC reports.
However, Rabio did not have the chance to predict the results of Japan’s match with Belgium as the octopus was unfortunately killed and turned into sashimi before the match on June 28. Ultimately, Japan lost in the match with Belgium and Rabio also suffered a similar fate as Kimio decided to sell him to a food market.

Kimio doesn’t regret his decision though, as he had already replaced the octopus with Rabio Jr. Nonetheless, the new octopus doesn’t seem to have to same predicting powers as his predecessor because he had predicted that Japan would triumph over Belgium, but the actual result was quite the opposite.
Well, it looks like Rabio Jr isn’t turning out to be quite the success he was meant to be! We wonder what Kimio will do with this octopus?
