These days, sightings of wild animals such as tigers and elephants that we would otherwise have to visit the zoo to see are as common as encounters with cows and wild boars in rural areas.
This is typically not a good sign because it means that these wild animals have lost their habitats, so they are looking for food elsewhere, including human settlements where food is usually abundant.
However, a recent sighting of a group of elephants climbing a hill in Kelantan has evoked a different interpretation of wild animal sightings.
In a viral TikTok video shared by @aimantransport, a few road users stopped by the side of the road to witness and take videos of the three elephants navigate their way through the hill bush.
According to Kosmo!, the Orang Asli community in Gua Musang believes that the incident of elephants climbing a hill in the Simpang Kuala Betis-Lojing area a few days ago is an early sign of an impending natural disaster.
An Orang Asli resident, Pelinejon Assut, 38, said that in the past, the Orang Asli community used animals as a reference in their daily lives.
“Apart from having their habitat invaded or wandering about to find food, we do not rule out the possibility that the group of elephants seem to want to give an indication that there will be a calamity or natural disaster after this.”
“Therefore, the Orang Asli community took the incident as a sign for us to prepare for the monsoon season soon,” he said.
