Good Vibes Festival (GVF) came and went this 20th and 21st July, with festival-goers making their way to the misty hilltops of The Ranch @ Gohtong Jaya in Genting Highlands, and it was definitely a weekend to remember!
Over 20,000 music lovers from all over the world attended this year’s festival to catch local and international acts performing throughout the weekend.
This year’s GVF was even bigger too, with its new and improved Electric Fields being expanded into a full-on stage at the field adjacent to the main stage grounds, featuring local and international DJs, hip-hop and electronic acts. The homegrown festival even collaborated with Boiler Room, a London-based music platform that broadcasts performances from all over the world!
GVF also put up vibrant art installations designed by local artists Pamela Tan and Suzy Sulaiman, which became the center of thousands of aesthetically-pleasing Instagram shots.
Netflix even had a booth dedicated to Stranger Things’ latest season, featuring a mini Starcourt Mall with the Mind Flayer perched on top of it. Fans played 80s-inspired games and posed for pictures in the booth’s mini hall of mirrors. Nestle’s La Creameria also had an all-pink booth, which pulled in festival-goers to snap Insta-worthy pictures in a ball pit.
At the Maybank area, festival-goers were given a chance to enjoy a fun ride down an adult-sized tube slide, as well as a chance to win merchandise upon their registration for MAE, Maybank’s e-wallet service. Fans also got their makeup and nails festival-ready at Rimmel’s and H&M’s booths, while taking photos at Passionation’s booth.
On day one, local band Lost Spaces kicked things off with their indie-pop songs while a spike in the crowd’s energy occurred later on in the day when Malaysian rapper Kidd Santhe got the crowd hyped with his energetic beats. 88rising’s Joji then drew in a huge crowd of fans and got everyone singing along to his power ballads set against the scenic sunset. Cigarettes After Sex entertained with their crowd favourite hits, while Mura Masa, 6lack, Rae Sremmurd, and San Holo got the audience dancing well into the night.
Meanwhile, at Electric Fields, Yaeji, Jai Wolf, and Cashmere Cat left everyone wanting more with their unique electronic sounds.
Day two got off to a mellow start with local indie acts Allester Shaun and The Impatient Sisters, while Midnight Fusic soon got the crowd dancing and singing along to crowd favourites, “Lovesick” and “When Love Was Around“. SonaOne’s high-energy set left everyone wanting more, while Sabrina Claudio and Daniel Caesar’s smooth vocals hypnotised the crowd. The energy picked up once again with Rad Museum and Dean’s set, along with Russ, who got everyone jumping to his infectious beats.
Yuna had festival-goers dancing the night away to the electrifying songs from her latest album, Rouge, and even singing along to her classics like “Dan Sebenarnya“.
At Electric Fields, New Zealand musician BAYNK, LapSap, Anna Lunoe, and other electronic acts had the crowd dancing into the end of a fantastic weekend.
GVF 2019 was definitely a weekend to remember! Did you guys get to attend this festival? Would you go for next year’s GVF? Let us know in the comments section!
