If you’re planning a getaway to Pangkor Island in the month of October then you should definitely take note!

According to Malaysiakini, Pangkor Airport will be reopening on 1st October 2019. The reopening of the airport is expected to “boost tourism and business” on the island.

Perak exco Tan Kar Hing revealed that SKS Airways Sdn Bhd is expected to begin its airline route from Subang Airport to Pangkor.

He was quoted as saying,

“This is good news for the people in Perak, particularly the residents of Pangkor, as we all know that this island will be duty-free from Jan 1st, 2020.”

“Besides promoting Pangkor, we will start operating the flights earlier for the purpose of familiarisation with the operations before implementing the duty-free status for the island.”

FYI, the Pangkor Airport was opened for operations in the year 1993 and had a 732m airstrip. Nevertheless, it ceased operations in February 2014.

That said, Tan further added that the airport’s condition will be reassessed to ensure the public’s safety and comfort before its reopening. He continued,

“Within the next four months, we will be looking out for any inadequacies including parking space for vehicles in the area.”

“From discussions with the airline company, we note that it will be using the Twin Otter aircraft model which can accommodate 19 passengers and it will operate daily return flights.”

Other than that, Tan noted that SKS Airways will be working towards opening a new route, which is Subang-Ipoh-Subang. This new route will come with two return flights daily, starting from 1st October.
