Para-badminton star Cheah Liek Hou is set to get his RM1 million reward under the National Sports Incentive Scheme (Shakam). However, the 36-year-old athlete won’t be spending the money alone.
Speaking to media friends today, Liek Hou said he is going to give back to society, and he’s going to do so by donating part of the RM1 million reward to charity bodies.
Liek Hou, however, did not mention which charity.
“I want to contribute a little to the welfare of the community,” he said.
He highlighted that the move to donate his prize money was something he had done in the past after winning the gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, where he also donated part of his RM1 million reward, plus an additional RM100,000 from FWD Takaful, to charity.
When asked about his expectations in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, Liek Hou admitted that he has not thought of anything that far yet.
“LA 2028 is still far away, I haven’t come up with any plans. But one thing for sure, I’ll keep playing badminton.”
Liek Hou also highlighted that he is currently focusing on the Para Asian Games which is scheduled for 2026 in Nagoya, Japan.
