As school has started for many primary and secondary school students, we can’t help but reminisce about the times we bought our school supplies in December. Be it finding the right pair of shoes in a crowded mall, or being contented with hand-me-downs, the process was as enjoyable as it was inevitable. For some people at least!
According to The Star, hundreds of students in KL did not get their promised school supplies in time for the reopening of school. This is part of the initiative from the Federal Territories Foundation (YWP) to provide supplies to needy students. The delay caused parents to panic as many of them had to rush to get the supplies the day before school started. A resident from Cheras mentioned,
“I had to rush to a shopping centre to catch the last day of the back-to-school sale. We did not expect the delay.”
Parents were also very disappointed by the delay as most of them did not have any contingency plans or enough time for uniform alterations.
Malay Mail reported, YWP started providing school supplies in the form of school uniforms, shoes, and bags to students several years ago as they wanted to help children from the B40 income group providing school aid. YWP has since apologised for their mistake and the inconvenience caused.
YWP Corporate Communications, Research and Special Task Division manager explained, “Since we are dealing with hundreds of schools, there are procedures to follow and that would take time. Details like getting the right uniform and shoe sizes also delayed things.” She reassures that they would not compromise on quality and only chose the best manufacturer to produce the school supplies.
Hopefully, the children will get their school supplies as soon as possible!
