Yesterday (February 13), it was reported that Raub MP Chow Yu Hui suggested that the government should divide the role of ‘Minister of Religious Affairs’ into 2 positions, one for Islamic Affairs and the other for non-Islamic Affairs.

This suggestion did not sit well with some.

PAS Selangor took to their Facebook page to share their belief that the MP, and his party, DAP, had “crossed a red line” with his suggestion, adding that it can create disharmony among non-Muslims.

They wrote, “DAP CROSSED A RED LINE! The proposal of the Raub Member of Parliament yesterday will only cause chaos in our country.”

“In fact, the proposal will create tension among non-Muslim religions, especially in the issue of selecting ministerial candidates due to the existence of various non-Muslim religions in this country, and the very different practices between them.”

They added that the Malaysian people have lived in peace and harmony under the Federal Constitution without a non-Muslim Religious Minister.

They went on to share that DAP requires a reminder that Islam is the religion of the Federation.

“DAP must be reminded that Islam is the religion of the Federation as stated in the Federal Constitution, Article 2, in addition to guaranteeing freedom of religion for all in Article 11,”

“Do not challenge the patience of Muslims in this country. Do not stir up the hornet’s nest. Do not repeat the black incident (the May 13, 1969, incident), that will only create chaos between the races in our country. Do not let this country bleed again!” they added.

PAS Selangor ended their statement by pointing out their belief that the Religious Affairs departments that currently exist in Malaysia are sufficient and there is no need to appoint another minister as it will involve financial implications.
