Paralympian Cheah Liek Hou has called out the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) on Instagram, saying they have yet to pay him the cash reward he was promised, even though the games ended a year ago.
His post sparked attention as other Malaysian Paralympians from the 2024 Paris Paralympics also claim they’re receiving less prize money than what was promised.

Cheah to face legal action
National para-badminton champion Cheah may face serious consequences after accusing the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) of not delivering the RM60,000 cash reward promised to Paralympic gold medalists, according to Berita Harian.
PCM president Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin said they’re even weighing legal action, arguing that Cheah’s public outburst on social media has hurt the council’s credibility.
He also warned that Cheah could even be suspended from major competitions if the issue continues.
“We’re currently discussing the next step with our lawyers. A show-cause letter will be sent to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), and we’ll also ask the National Sports Council to clarify if athletes are actually allowed to act this way,” he said.

“It could risk driving away potential sponsors”
Megat Shahriman reminded that the PCM is the only body allowed to register athletes for big events like the Olympics and Asian Games.
“For multi-sport events, only PCM has the authority to register athletes. That’s our responsibility. And once a show-cause letter is issued, it could even lead to suspension,” he explained.
He added that PCM is always open to discussions if athletes act responsibly and go through the right channels.
“But putting it out on social media only harms us and could put future sponsorships at risk,” he added.
