A Malaysian man suspected of filming a woman inside a toilet at Mayang Mall in Terengganu has been arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The suspect, nicknamed “Ultraman” on social media because of the shirt he wore during the incident, was apprehended on Friday (28 November) at 11 AM, one week after a manhunt was launched. The 24-year-old was arrested while at a barber shop in Setiu.
The victim splashed water on his phone
Kuala Terengganu Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the suspect admitted to attempting to film the victim inside the mall’s toilet. However, his plan was thwarted.
“The victim noticed the phone through the gap in the door and splashed water on the device before the suspect could film her,” Azli said.
The suspect fled the scene before the victim could stop him. Shortly after, the victim lodged a police report, and Mayang Mall’s management assured visitors that auxiliary police would increase patrols, especially in the area where the incident occurred on 20 November.
The suspect was wearing a white T-shirt with the words “Aku Kuat, Aku Ultraman” printed on the back during the incident. According to Malaysia Gazette, an iPhone 13 and a SIM card were confiscated from the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing and Section 509 for insulting a person’s modesty, as reported by Sinar Harian.
Azli added that the suspect will be brought to court today (29 November) for a remand application.
