Crimes happen everywhere at any time. Without the police and the relevant authorities staying vigilant at times to protect and serve, all criminals would still be at large and terrorising the streets.

Regardless of the kind of crimes committed, PDRM recently revealed that the crime rates in Malaysia have decreased by 1.1 percent as of June 2023. In other words, a number of 25,482 cases were recorded this year as compared to 25,774 cases last year.

Deputy Director of Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (Strategic Planning) Datuk K. Kumaran said this shows that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has succeeded in maintaining the national security situation at a good level.

According to him, 16,518 cases have been solved, which is equivalent to 64.8% as compared to the case rate which was set at 45%.

“This shows that in every 10 cases, 6 to 7 cases are successfully resolved,” he said.

Despite the decrease in crime rates, he said that it’s not an excuse for the police to be less vigilant. In fact, they should work harder to curb the crimes in order to allow the community to live in a safe environment.

He said this at the opening speech of the closing of the Crime Prevention Awareness Program 2023 Organized by the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Selangor recently.

However, cybercrime has shown an increase, with cases involving victims including businessmen, government and private employees, students, women, and those who are unemployed, reported Astro Awani.

The decreasing number does not mean we’re perfectly safe. It is up to us to remain vigilant and the authorities to carry their duties to protect and serve.
