No one likes being stuck in the traffic, especially when we are driven by the excitement to balik kampung and spend the festive season in our respective hometowns. Regardless, it is still not a reason for anyone to misuse the emergency lane in order to cut the queue.

Still think you’re entitled to use the emergency lane? Just a reminder that PDRM is watching!

PDRM’s Traffic & Enforcement Department (JSPT) is now using a drone to monitor the traffic during Raya but most importantly, they will be monitoring the misuse of emergency lanes on the highway. In an operation known as OP Selamat 18, JSPT revealed via their Facebook account a monitoring operation was conducted yesterday on Sunday (1 May) on PLUS highway.

Under the name of Unit Drone Team Bravo, the team deployed the drone in the air & spotted the vehicles that used the emergency lanes. Those who were caught doing so without valid reasons were immediately slapped with an RM300 fine. You can watch a short clip of the operation below.

OP SELAMAT 18 – JSPT GUNA DRONE PANTAU KESALAHAN GUNA LORONG KECEMASAN Slim River, 1 Mei 2022 – YDH DCP Dato' Mohd Nadzri bin Hussain, Timb. The deputy director of JSPT, YDH Dato’ Nadzri said that the operation managed to minimise the misuse of emergency lanes due to the drivers’ awareness, as well as their fear of being recorded and getting fines.

Other drivers were also praised for their patience in going through the traffic congestion during the balik kampung trip.

That’s the money’s worth

Malaysians are impressed by this and most of them agree that JSPT is using drones the way it is meant to be used.

“Good job. This is how it is supposed to be. Hopefully, this will continue. It’s worth buying expensive drones when it proves to be fruitful. Hopefully there will be more of these drones, easy job and more captures”

“It is definitely worth it to buy expensive drones for such a purpose. Good job!”

“Good! It’s so satisfying to see those misusing emergency lanes getting stopped & fined. They deserve it. Arrogant & self-important. As if they’re the only ones who are busy.”

“Congratulations PDRM! Aside from the public’s complaints, the deployment of drones is also beneficial. By the end of the month, JSPT can already cover the expenses for the drones through the payment of summons by the drivers. Good job”

While there are no words if JSPT will continue enforcing the deployment of drones in the future, we strongly advise all drivers out there to NOT misuse the emergency lanes in order to avoid any unwanted consequences. Be responsible and drive safe!
