Those who frequent KL areas, especially Bukit Bintang, can bear witness to the hectic traffic that happens day & night. PDRM recently revealed that one main route in Jalan Bukit Bintang might be closed off for road diversions.

This is due to the high volume of vehicles using the road, which causes congestion during peak hours.

In an interview with Buletin TV3, The Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, stated that further discussions and studies will be conducted with the relevant parties regarding the proposal for road closures and diversions to reduce traffic congestion.

“Day or night, the main route to Bukit Bintang, starting from the intersection near the famous shopping mall to Jalan Pudu, is often congested.”

“This location is a major attraction for visitors, especially tourists.”

Datuk Rusdi also said before the road closure could happen, A LOT has to be taken into consideration. This includes parking facilities, hotels, and residential areas. If the area is diverted, the authorities plan to close off vehicle access to make it a pedestrian zone.

“If we do this with clear explanations and communicate this information to the public and relevant parties, I think this proposal can be considered. We can give it a try first,” Datuk Rusdi explained.

Does the ignorance of the road users contribute to the congestion?

One of the many wonders about KL is the never-ending hectic traffic, and according to Datuk Rusdi, one of the main causes of the traffic in Bukit Bintang is due to the ignorance of the road users.

This includes those who park their vehicles at the roadside and obstruct the traffic.

Other reasons include cab and e-hailing drivers who drop off and pick up their passengers and the street music activities that easily attract the people in the area.

Do you think the main route should be diverted for better traffic in Bukit Bintang?
