The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has rescued 3 Indonesian men who had been locked up for almost a year in a condominium unit on Jalan Dr Wu Lien Teh, Penang, on Tuesday (June 10).

According to a report by Harian Metro, a police report was made by a man from Aceh, Indonesia, who came to Malaysia to look for his brother, who had gone missing without a trace for a year.

The three victims were found to have been locked up in the condominium unit, with their feet tied to the window bars using iron chains.

One of the victims was said to have managed to send their location to someone before the complainant came to Malaysia to file a police report.

Arrests were made

Following this, four individuals, including a foreign woman, were detained and remanded for 4 days until Saturday (June 14).

The remand order against the suspects, aged 40 to 55, was issued by Magistrate Azlan Basri to enable an investigation to be carried out under Section 344 of the Penal Code, for wrongful confinement for 10 or more days.

The Penang Police Chief, Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, has since confirmed the arrests, though the motive for why the Indonesian men were chained up in the condominium unit has yet to be revealed.
