You don’t need us to remind you, but driving under the influence, whether it be alcohol or other substances, is very dangerous and very illegal. Accidents caused by driving under the influence have left many families devastated with the loss of their loved ones, and for some who survive these incidents, the scars they leave behind continue to linger on.
One such tragedy struck a family of seven, when a couple riding their motorbike along the North-South Expressway (NSE) was rear-ended by a drunk driver, reports New Straits Times.
The incident, which took place near the Perai exit of the highway last night (9th February 2020), involved Khairizul Mohamad Noor, a 39-year-old factory worker and his wife, 36-year-old Zuriana Hasan, when they were returning home from dinner with Zuriana’s two younger sisters. At 5am, their motorbike was rear-ended by a Perodua Alza, causing Khairizul to be thrown off his motorbike.
Khairizul died immediately at the scene, while his wife, Zuriana, suffered critical injuries as a result of the accident.
The driver of the Perodua Alza was detained for investigations, which revealed that he was drunk at the time of the accident after he failed a breathalyzer test. He did not suffer from any injuries.
But most tragically, Zuriana, who is still in intensive care, is not aware of her husband’s death, according to a family member who was at Hospital Seberang Jaya. The couple both have five children, and there are concerns that should Zuriana’s condition worsen, the children may be orphaned as a result.
We hope that Zuriana’s condition improves for the sake of her five children, and hope that the drunk driver will be held accountable for his actions! Remember, never drink and drive, for the consequences for both you and others may be fatal!
