Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) on Friday (29 September) captured a male tiger believed to have been attacking pet dogs belonging to the Temiar Orang Asli community in Pos Bihai in Gua Musang since July.

As reported by BERNAMA, Kelantan Perhilitan director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said that the tiger, named ‘Apek Bihai’, is estimated to be two years old and was healthy when captured.

Previously, Perhilitan alongside members of the Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit (UKHM) laid several traps in the area between 6 August and 8 September after receiving a complaint from Kampung Hak villagers in July.

Pos Bihai is no stranger to tiger attacks, with previous records showing that the first case of a tiger attack occurred on 5 July 2021 involving a tiger named Syamilla Bihai which caused serious injury to an Orang Asli man. The tiger was successfully captured and placed at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai, Perak.

Furthermore, on 7 January 2022, an Orang Asli man was killed after being attacked by a tiger, with the animal having to be shot dead after it tried to attack Perhilitan personnel during an operation.

As for the captured Apek Bihai, the male tiger will be sent to NWRC soon.
