The reopening of day and night markets have been put on hold until a later date as announced by the Kangar Municipal Council (MPK).

In a statement released by the council, the postponement was in place to ensure that the reopening could be carried out in compliance with the standard operating procedures issued by the National Security Council (MKN).

The move to postpone the opening of day and night markets is not in line with the move by the Johor, Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan municipal council which allows their markets to resume operations in stages.

To aid struggling hawkers affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and the newly installed Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), hawker bazaars in selected locations are currently in planning.

The move to reopen day and night markets came following the announcement of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who announced that all bazaars across the country will be allowed to resume operations from Monday, following procedures set by the health ministry.
