The world is becoming a dangerous place to live in compared to a few decades ago, especially in Malaysia. We have already heard so many stories of all sorts of crimes that happened recently, which makes many of us fearful of going outside alone.

Due to this reason, Petron has decided to launch an initiative called Go To Safety Point (GTSP) in an effort to fight against crime and will be spreading awareness through installation art that will be placed at every Petron petrol station.

This will let the public know that in any case of emergency, victims of crime are able to go to Petron stations to seek help and refuge, reported The Star.

“We are starting off by putting the installation arts in 10 stations in Klang Valley as a pilot project,” said Petron retail business head Faridah Ali at a press conference after launching the initiative on Wednesday (July 18).

“We want to make it clear that if anyone faces any emergency, especially victims of crime, they can go to any Petron station to seek help.”

After reviewing the effectiveness of the pilot project, the company will consider further action, said Faridah. GTSP is available at all Petron stations nationwide, although only 10 of them will display the installation arts.

“Under GTSP, our petrol stations dealers and key personnel are trained by the police to provide initial assistance before the police arrive on the scene.”

“They are trained to calm the victim down, as well as know the necessary emergency numbers to call the authorities,” she said.

Deputy Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief, acknowledged the installation arts initiative and called it timely.

“We need the help of every member of society in combating and preventing crime,” he said.

“This latest initiative is a move in the right direction.”

At the event, there was an enactment of a crime scene where a woman was being attacked by two men over a fender bender. She then screamed for help near a petrol station and was rescued by police personnel who arrived on the scene to arrest the culprits.

The GTSP project was launched in 2013 and was designed to create “safe zones”. Each safety point has been equipped with facilities to alert the cops to come and record the victim’s statements and police report. They also act as a converging point for police patrol units, making them one of the safest places to be.

Take note guys! If ever you find yourself in a bad situation and you are near a Petron station, go to them and they will help you! Meanwhile, always be aware of your surroundings and stay safe.
