Whether we are single or taken, we can all agree that getting someone’s attention has never been a piece of cake. That said, there are boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed and this incident is an example of that.
Recently, a Nepalese man who works at a cafe in Petaling Jaya took it too far when he pulled the bra strap of one of his colleagues. As a result, Pratap Thokar, 25, was fined a sum of RM4,000 in default five months’ worth of jail time.
According to Utusan Online, the incident happened on 16th December at a cake shop in Kelana Jaya. Following that, the 23-year-old victim lodged a police report against Pratap for insulting her modesty due to her not answering any of his calls.

The Star also reported that Pratap, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty and pleaded for a lighter sentence too.
Meanwhile, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Alia Sumayyah Amran, Magistrate Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir meted out a deterrent sentence against the man, saying,
“I urge the court to take into consideration the fact that the accused has disrupted the peace of the workers at the plant.”

This offence violates Section 509 of the Penal code which carries a maximum jail time of five years, or a fine, or both.
Sexual harassment in work places should never be tolerated and if you are a victim, always report it to the authorities and never suffer in silence.
