The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his special Labour’s Day Speech (1 May) encouraged employers to consider having flexible working hours for their employees after he announced that certain economy sectors will start operating on the 4th of May.

In his speech, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged employers to set flexible working hours for their employees and highly recommended employees to work from home. This is also to avoid crowding in public areas such as LRT (Light Rail Transit) and MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) stations.

If employees are required to be at the workplace, the management has to check their employees’ body temperature every day and ensure that the working premises are sanitised. Employees are also required to wear face mask in their workplace as a safety precaution.

Furthermore, employers are advised to take into consideration regarding workers who need to take care of their children and should allow alternate working days for parents who are at work.

Government workers are also advised to work from home unless their presence is really needed in the workplace. As an alternative, Tan Sri Muhyiddin suggested meetings to be conducted online to prevent mass gathering.

Deparment Heads are also instructed to discuss with their respective departments to set up arrangements and the concept of working from home should be prioritised.
