Malaysia’s prime minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob has announced an emergency holiday for all public servants who are affected by the floods.
“I announced an emergency leave to all civil servants affected by the flood disaster,” he said in a Twitter posting today (19 December 2021). He also urged private companies to give affected employees paid leave, without deducting their annual leave or salary.

“For private employees, companies are advised to give them paid leave, without deducting their annual leave and salary,” he added.
Besides, the prime minister also said that he has instructed the Ministry of Finance to make banking institutions available to offer payment assistance programs for borrowers affected by the floods. “I will also ensure that each PPS has adequate equipment and basic necessities such as toilets, face masks and food for flood victims,” he said in another Twitter posting today.
In addition, according to Ismail Sabri, at least a doctor and a nurse will be stationed at each relief centre (PPS) to ensure that the health of the flood victims is taken care of. Amidst the pandemic, victims will also undergo RTK COVID-19 screening to prevent transmission of the virus while at the PPS.
