Some might say Malaysians are overreacting while others might say it is good to take preventive measures early on. But what we can all agree on is that the spread of Wuhan’s Coronavirus needs to be stopped before any Malaysians fall victim to the deadly virus.

Tun Mahathir has just released a statement, quoted by Astro Awani, explaining that the spread of coronavirus in Malaysia has not reached a critical level yet. Hence there is not need to put the tourism industry on hold which will affect our economy severely.

He, however elaborated that the government is doing their best to ensure all incoming tourists go through strict screenings to detect any victims early on before they come into Malaysia. He also mentioned that at the moment, it is hard to predict the severity of the outbreak and only time can tell. He said,

We must evaluate when the time is right to declare it as critical. But at this point, it’s still not critical to the extent that we need to stop tourism for example.”

The prime minister also explained that Malaysia would not send the Chinese tourists back to their home countries, especially the four patients as it would put them and the people around them at risk.

As of now, China has already imposed an outbound travel ban on several of her major cities in order to contain the spread of the virus while as reported by National File,  Philippines has recently sent 500 tourists from Wuhan back to China amid concerns of the deadly virus.

Do you think banning tourists from China is a good move to take now? Will it be able to stop the further spreading of Wuhan’s Coronavirus? Share with us your opinion in the comment section below.
