Earlier today, Time just published a list of five world leaders that are even less popular than the infamous U.S. President, Donald Trump.
This may come as a surprise to some, but one of the leaders on the list is none other than our very own Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak!
He was listed alongside Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro, Brazil’s Michel Temer, South Africa’s Jacob Zuma, and Greece’s Alexis Tsipras.
The international magazine cited Prime Minister Najib’s controversial 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, which allegedly involved RM2.6 billion being found in his personal account last year, as the reason for this.
The prime minister was accused of corruption, although he explained that the money was actually a donation from the Saudi royal family, not from 1MDB.
It was later confirmed that the money was in fact a donation in a statement by Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Adel Al-Jubeir.
This comes after recent news that the RM2.6 billion was donated to the Prime Minister’s personal account to fund preparations for the upcoming general elections.
This information was revealed by Minister of Tourism and Culture, Nazri, who said,
“The first time Najib led BN in the general election, he didn’t know who to ask donations from, until he met the prince of Saudi Arabia. When the prince asked him how much he needed, he didn’t dare to answer.
“On the ground that Malaysia’s official religion is Islam, the prince decided to donate money to Najib. But he didn’t know where to deposit the money, so he opened up a personal account and deposited the money there.”
Despite the issue being clarified, Prime Minister Najib’s approval rating is apparently at ‘record lows’ according to Time.
Netizens who read the news were absolutely shocked that this happened to our dear beloved prime minister.
“How dare TIME feature our supreme leader like that? They’re obviously not afraid of some c4 action!” one commented.
What do you think of our Prime Minister being included in this list? Let us know!
