Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million to assist flood victims in Sabah via the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
Taking to his official Facebook page, Anwar, who is currently in Doha, Qatar, to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, said that he is deeply saddened by the impact of the floods in Sabah and has ordered the entire MADANI Government machinery to be mobilised to ensure assistance reaches the rakyat without disruption.

He further revealed that the RM10 million amount is in addition to the RM11 million already channelled through the Sabah State Government for urgent repairs of basic facilities in the affected areas.
“Our priority is to safeguard the safety, welfare and livelihood of flood victims,” Anwar stressed.
According to BERNAMA, 415 flood victims from 113 families were housed at two temporary relief centres and one permanent relief centre in Sabah as of 8 AM today.
DAP Sabah calls for the Hari Malaysia celebration to be cancelled
Meanwhile, DAP Sabah today called for the cancellation of Hari Malaysia celebrations tomorrow (16 September) due to the natural disaster.
DAP Sabah Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe, in a statement, said that severe floods and landslides have struck the whole of Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.

He added that there have been widespread breakdowns of power and water supply affecting communities on the East Coast of Sabah currently.
“The situation has been further aggravated by the landslide that brought down the 275kV transmission tower, cutting off electricity supply and triggering widespread disruptions. At the same time, flash floods have inundated multiple districts, forcing families to evacuate and leaving many with damaged homes and livelihoods,” the statement reads.
Accordingly, Phoong said that in order to truly honour the spirit of Hari Malaysia, these disasters must be recognised as a national-level crisis. Moreover, by calling off Malaysia Day celebrations, DAP Sabah underscored that the most meaningful way to mark this national occasion is by protecting lives, prioritising the welfare of the people, and restoring essential services.
“This is not the time for celebration. It is the time for mobilisation. The people of Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, and the East Coast are in dire need of shelter, food, clean water, medical assistance, and immediate restoration of basic utilities. Malaysia Day must be commemorated through service and solidarity, not festivity,” the DAP Sabah Chairman stressed.
