Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today revealed that Egypt has requested Malaysia to play a bigger role in the Gaza Reconstruction Conference, not just as a participant, but as a co-organiser.
Anwar, who is currently in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a working visit, told Malaysian media that the proposal was conveyed by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on behalf of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who also sent his greetings.

Anwar revealed that Egypt has invited Malaysia to co-organise the Gaza Reconstruction Conference
The Prime Minister met Madbouly on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa.
BERNAMA quoted Anwar as saying,
“Egypt expressed its wish for Malaysia to attend the Gaza Reconstruction Conference and also to co-host it. I informed him that I would first obtain detailed information from the Foreign Ministry before making a final decision.”

The purpose of the Gaza Reconstruction Conference is to seek approval from Arab, Muslim, American, and other countries so that the implementation of the first phase of development is seen as more comprehensive.
Anwar added that while Malaysia agrees with the first phase of development proposed by the United States, the country emphasised that the solution should be more comprehensive and holistic, in line with Malaysia’s policy.
This marks the second time the Prime Minister has participated in the G20 Leaders’ Summit as a guest country, following his attendance in Brazil last year.
This year’s invitation was extended by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa in Malaysia’s capacity as ASEAN Chair for 2025.
