Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is urging people not to underestimate the RM100 cash aid that was recently announced.

According to a report by Kosmo, he shared that the amount may be considered small to those with high incomes, but it can mean a lot to low-income groups and those living in rural areas.

rm100 1

“Some say it’s only RM100. Those of you who earn RM20,000 or RM40,000, the RM100 is considered nothing. But I know, if you go to village areas, don’t underestimate it,”

“The government is increasing the existing allocation of RM13 billion to RM15 billion,” he explained.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim added that cash assistance from the government could be as much as RM400 and increase to RM700 when combined with Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR).

“Nothing special”

This comes after many, including PAS politician Fadhli Shaari, considered the Prime Minister’s announcement of special aid to the people “nothing special”.

He added that the RM100 cash assistance was merely an attempt to diffuse the dissatisfaction felt by Malaysians ahead of the ‘Turun Anwar’ rally against the Prime Minister.

Following this, MCA President, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, proposed that the government implement a system allowing Malaysians to voluntarily return the RM100 cash aid so that the money can be utilised to help the underprivileged.
