Despite the rally calling for his resignation as Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim thanked the authorities involved and expressed his gratitude for ensuring the event ran smoothly and that attendees remained safe.
As for the protestors, PMX wished them a safe journey home.
However, Anwar also expressed hope of seeing them again, though not at another protest. He suggested they return to Kuala Lumpur in the future to support Visit Malaysia 2026 and help boost the country’s tourism.
“Historic landmarks around the capital city, including the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad Building at Dataran Merdeka, are now part of a comprehensive restoration initiative aimed at enhancing tourism and revitalising the local economy in an area deeply rooted in history, national pride, and enduring hope.”
Anwar also hinted at more activities awaiting them should they decide to return to KL. The invitation is open to everyone, including the protestors who voiced their solidarity and opinions at the rally. In his Facebook post, Anwar made it clear that he did not take the criticisms against him personally.
“As Prime Minister, I remain steadfast and consistent in upholding democratic principles, namely, the freedom of speech and the expression of criticism.”
“Criticism and differing views should not be seen through the lens of hostility, instead, they should continue to grow and flourish as the lifeblood of a mature, progressive, and sovereign nation,” he shared.
Anwar also encouraged Malaysians to continue engaging in dialogue and discourse, to seek common ground, and to plan and build the nation together.
