By now you would have heard about the news of the eye-watering amount that was calculated from the raids done at residences linked to former Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak. Clocking in at a staggering RM1.1 billion for its market value, the loot has certainly left Malaysians shocked.
Just the amount of the bags alone were stunning, as there were a total of 567 handbags seized from the residences. In the press conference, Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh announced that they had only counted the value of 267 bags so far.
Many of the luxury brands were accounted for in the “collection”, including Hermes, Chanel, Prada and a super exclusive brand known as Bijan, which totalled up to RM51.3 million. It was reported that the Bijan bags, which are custom-made, were valued at an estimate RM1.6 million.
You may be wondering, are all the handbags really so exclusive and atas? Well, it looks like there were some dupes inside the loot, though! One of the reporters at the press conference asked whether all the items were authentic and to their surprise, Amar Singh said that they found some copies in the handbag collection, China Press reported.
Contrary to popular belief, these are not fakes exactly, but more like bags that were “inspired” by famous brands. It is understood that there were a few handbags that looked exactly like some of the famous luxury brands at first glance, which would have easily tricked anyone.
However, after careful inspection by experts, it was determined that these bags were just clever dupes as it had different labels. Nevertheless, Amar Singh explained that these dupes are very high quality and expensive as well. At the moment, it is unclear whether these handbags were purchased or whether someone sent them as gifts.
Hmm, we wonder how the handbag dupes ended up in the residences!
