Many items were taken when the police raided several residences belonging to Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his family. Amongst them were the now-popular loot of branded bags, bundles of cash, and jewellery that needed five Black Marias to transport them.

The police had also previously found a locked safe that’s believed to be more than 20 years old in Najib’s Taman Duta home. The safe’s key went missing but after much drilling, they managed to open it. After the first raid, the authorities managed to find another eight safes that supposedly belong to Najib in his Seri Perdana Complex residence in Putrajaya, NST reported.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigations Department Director (CCID) director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh said they tried to open the safes from 12.21pm on May 19 until 3am the following morning. That’s 15 hours long!

Two locksmiths were brought in to help crack the safes and after a long day, they finally managed to open everything up.

You must be thinking that there should be a forgotten gold mine or some treasure inside, but it turned out to be even worse.

To their disappointment, nothing of importance was found inside the safes. The police were looking for evidence to help in their investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

When asked about the value of the items previously seized from raids done in Najib’s residences, the police said that they are not sure how much everything is worth. According to Sinchew, they may be planning to bring in third-party valuers to try and place a market value on the items.

That’s a lot of empty safes to keep around the house, though! We wonder why!
