Impersonating someone is illegal, but imagine the consequences of pretending to be someone from law enforcement…
Well, that’s exactly what this person did. The Kuala Lumpur District Police took to Facebook to release a statement about an individual caught impersonating a police officer.

To make matters worse, it was revealed that the suspect had been impersonating Dato’ Seri Ayob Mydin Pitchay, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The police found out that this person was using the name “Dato’ Ayob Khan Mydin” on WhatsApp, trying to get people to join a so-called “Friendship Group” on the app.
“An individual is falsely claiming to be Dato’ Ayob Khan Mydin on WhatsApp and inviting others to join a group chat called ‘Friendship Group’.”

“This damages the PDRM’s image”
The statement also revealed how PDRM confirms that Dato’ Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has no involvement in any special WhatsApp group. They also emphasised how this act by irresponsible individuals causes confusion and tarnishes the image of PDRM.
“Strict action will be taken to track down and investigate the number behind this, according to the law, against anyone trying to impersonate PDRM’s top leaders or other public figures.”
The police is advising the public to stay vigilant and avoid falling for online scams.
