Call it a coincidence or destiny, a male police officer who was once an ‘express midwife’ 13 years ago, has once again come to a woman’s rescue when she gave birth in a toilet.

The policeman involved, Corporal Mohd Zahri Ramzan, 35, said the incident happened when he had just left his house in Kampung Padang Balang Hilir to work around 7.40am yesterday morning (2 December).

According to Harian Metro, he explained that an anxious woman appeared and asked for help as one of the neighbours was suddenly giving birth.

“I then rushed into the house before finding a woman in her early 30s lying in pain on the toilet floor,” he said.

“I found that the woman was very weak and had just given birth to a baby boy. We were informed that the woman initially complained of wanting to defecate before giving birth to a premature baby unexpectedly,” he said.

Due to the cramped condition in the toilet, he was assisted by another neighbour trying to carry the victim out slowly from inside the toilet.

“The woman was then laid in the living room of the house. At that time I found that the baby’s placenta was still in the woman’s womb.

“Concerned that it could endanger the woman’s life, I asked her to force it out so that the placenta could be removed.”

Alhamdulillah, the placenta was finally removed before being wrapped in cloth while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. I then took the baby and cleaned it with a cloth,” he said.

Corporal Mohd Zahri Ramzan, who works at the Support Resource Coordination Division, Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) Bukit Aman, said the woman was then taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by ambulance around 8.15am.

“I did not expect to face the same situation after celebrating the birth of a baby girl at the door of a resident’s house in Wangsa Maju, back in March 2007.

“In that incident, a woman was not able to be taken to the hospital in time to give birth. Fortunately, the knowledge gained while being a member of the Civil Defense Force (APM) helped me a lot to face this anxious moment once again,” he said.

Well done Corporal!
