The police recently raided a nightclub on Jalan Loke Yew that had only been operating for two months.
According to Harian Metro, the 11:45 pm raid was conducted under Ops Gegar, and media members spotted what looked like ‘garlands’ or sashes denoting tip amounts ranging from RM100 to RM100,000.
As part of the raid, 136 foreign women were detained as part of the raid on suspicion of working as guest relations officers (GROs).
It was reported that the women had attempted to avoid arrest by hiding under tables, in cupboards, narrow passageways, and beneath the stage.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration director-general Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said they had been investigating the premise for two weeks.
“This club has just opened, and we believe they have only been operating for two months. They are still undergoing renovation work, as several rooms are still under construction, believed to be for KTV (karaoke).”
“Among the women detained, some were using Spouse Passes, but when asked where their husbands were, they could not answer,” he shared.
During the raid, 350 individuals, including visitors, supervisors, and foreign and local workers, were interrogated.
The detainees included one male and 113 female Thai nationals, 12 Vietnamese women, one Laotian woman, one Filipino woman, and 27 Bangladeshi men.
Additionally, five local individuals were also detained, including employers, supervisors, and premises caretakers.
