To ease the burden of Malaysians, the Selangor state government has initiated the affordable houses programme (RMM) targeted to specific groups of people, with various affordable prices which you can refer to here.

Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Dato’ Sri Ustaz Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, however, does not think the affordable houses are affordable at all. In Parliament yesterday (March 25), Tuan Ibrahim highlighted his take on the affordable house issues.

“Some of them are not even affordable because the people can only afford to see, not buy.”

He also said that according to a report from the Chairman of the Association of Property and Housing Developers (REHDA), the price of boarding houses for real estate will increase by 10-20% this year.

To him, it is a burdensome approach to consumers.

“For example, the profits are much higher than the ‘basic’ payment. If the buyer is in debt for 10 to 20 years, the debt principle will look like it’s remaining stagnant and not decreasing.”

In Parliament, Tuan Ibrahim wanted to know if the government has implemented a fairer mechanism for housing loans.

‘The amount paid by borrowers should be fairer borrowers than to financial institutions.”

Deputy Minister for Housing and Local Government, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, said his ministry had introduced a state-owned affordable housing policy and set the price ceiling for affordable homes at RM300,000.

“Actually, affordable houses are houses that cost RM300,000 and below.”

To those who have purchased the properties under RMM, what do you think of the pricing and the condition?
