With delivery services gaining extra attention during the MCO and CMCO, it is believed that companies like Pos Malaysia have gained an increase in their business. However, Pos Malaysia has revealed that this is not the case.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, Pos Malaysia said that even though there is a surge of parcel volume during the MCO, it is not enough to cushion the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has caused on their business.

“Despite public impression that the surge of parcel volume during the MCO is showing that business is good for Pos Malaysia, the truth is we are far from it,” they said.

“It is not enough to cushion the impact that pandemic has caused on our overall business.”

Pos Malaysia then said that they will continue to prioritise the needs of their staff and ensure that their employees’ future is protected.

“Although Pos Malaysia is facing a difficult time, we continue to protect the livelihood of over 15,000 front liners and operational support employees and ensure that their needs are prioritised,” they said.

“While many severely impacted sectors in the country resorted to salary reductions, job cuts or other drastic measures, we continue to strive hard in ensuring that these employees future are protected.”

“We can’t stop the general perception against us right now. But we assure everyone that we have our people’s welfare at heart, and we are providing them the best support as we possibly can at this time.”

Pos Malaysia then ends the post by thanking their valued customers and the public for all the well wishes, encouragement and support during this challenging time.

“Thank you for being with us this far. Wishing everyone a Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir dan Batin.”

Earlier, The Star reported that a petition on Change.org was created urging Pos Malaysia to pay a bonus or ‘duit raya’ to its delivery staff. As of 4.30pm on 17 May, the petition has garnered almost 23,000 signatures.

The petition is titled “Pos Malaysia must give bonus or duit raya to our mailmen” which has a 25,000 supporters goal.

“Let’s support our other frontliners – the mailmen, ‘abang pos’ and all the post workers behind the scenes and push Pos Malaysia to appreciate their hard work during this Covid-19 MCO by giving them some bonus or duit raya at least,” the user stated on the petition.

“They have been working very hard to try to deliver every piece of mail and package especially with the increase of online shopping during the MCO.”

“They’re working beyond the required hours and it’s been doubly hard for them in the last three weeks especially due to the Ramadan month.”

Thank you abang pos for your hard work in delivering stuff to us every day. We’re grateful for your service and we hope that you will stay safe and healthy.
