For readers who happened to join in a four-day long tabligh gathering between February 27th and March 1st at at Masjid Sri Petaling, Selangor, please do take note of this news. It has been reported by New Straits Times, Harian Metro as well as other mainstream media sources that those who attended the gathering may be exposed to the Covid-19 coronavirus.
This is due to the fact that a patient from Brunei, who tested positive for the virus, was at the gathering during the time, according to health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“Based on preliminary information, this tabligh gathering involved around 10,000 people from several countries. Attendees from Malaysia were expected to be more than 5,000 people.” he said.
Around 5,000 of those who attended are Malaysians, while attendees from several other countries were also present at the religious gathering. All State health departments have been told to conduct further investigation on members from their own states who attended the gathering,
Those who were present at the mosque are also advised to practice social distancing by keeping a one-metre distance from other people for 14 days (from the date of attending the gathering), and report any symptoms of the virus to the authorities immediately. Mass gatherings have also been advised to be postponed by the Ministry of Health to prevent further spreading of the disease.
If you display any symptoms of the Covid-19 coronavirus, please do take all the necessary steps to keep you and yourself safe, and get yourself tested!
