A seven-month pregnant nurse was injured in the forehead and right hand when she struggled with a knife-wielding snatch thief trying to grab her handbag in front of her home in Springhill Town, Lukut.
The incident happened yesterday, 24 December, at around 8.05am.
According to Harian Metro, the victim, Nur Azarina Mohd Nasir, 29, who had just returned home from a night shift job at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Seremban (HTJS) was approached by a man as soon as she parked her car in the parking lot in front of her house.
Nur Azarina said that immediately after getting out of her car, the man threatened her with a knife and tried to snatch her handbag.
“I tried to fight but the man pushed me, causing me to fall back as my hand hit the knife,” she said.
“The man then put the knife around my three-year-old son’s neck and got into the car. He asked me to hand over my valuables,” she added on.
According to her, the man ran away after failing to snatch her handbag. However, he did manage to get away with her handphone as it fell down.
Nur Azarina also said the snatcher may have run away because some residents nearby came on motorcycles and tried their best to help chase the man who was using a silver Perodua Axia.
“I also had a wound on my forehead due to a blow from the back of the knife as well as a ring finger injury due to being hit by the knife used by the man,” she said.
She then contacted her husband who works as a soldier at Rasah Camp, Seremban, using her son’s mobile phone to inform him of the horrific incident.
“My husband took me to Lukut Health Clinic for treatment. I received two stitches on my forehead and five on my left ring finger,” she said.
“This incident really traumatized me, but I am relieved that my one-and-a-half-year-old son was not injured,” she added on.
Meanwhile, the witness of the incident, Jamaludin Jantan, 52, said he patrolling with his son on a motorcycle and was shocked after realising the victim was facing a snatch thief.
“At first I passed in front of the victim’s house and thought it was a fight between a husband and wife, but an uneasy feeling caused me to turn around and saw a man in a hurry to leave the location by car,” he said.
“After the victim informed that it was a snatch thief and her mobile phone was taken, I tried to catch up but failed and contacted a neighbour to help the victim who was covered in blood,” he said.
Port Dickson District Deputy Chief of Police, Deputy Superintendent Mustafah Hussin said the suspect was later arrested while resting at a hotel in the district at 12.30pm.
“There was a fight between the victim and the suspect which resulted in the victim being injured in the face and receiving treatment as an outpatient at Port Dickson Hospital,” he explained.
“The suspect fled with the victim’s mobile phone in a car and caused an estimated loss of RM500,” he added on.
“At 12.30pm, we arrested three men and two women in two separate places, namely in Telok Kemang and in an apartment in Port Dickson to assist in the investigation,” he said.
