Recently, a project manager from a construction company attempted to burn nearly RM1 million in cash during a raid conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at his home in Petaling Jaya.

The incident became a hot topic among netizens after photos of burnt RM100 notes circulated on social media. According to reports, the suspect began burning bundles of cash as MACC officers arrived at his residence.

Upon entering the home, officers were met with thick smoke emanating from the bathroom.

“Upon inspection, MACC officers discovered RM100 notes amounting to RM1 million had been burnt.”

But that wasn’t all.

“The raid also uncovered RM7.5 million in cash hidden in pillow boxes, along with luxury items including a Rolex, an Omega, and a Cartier watch, as well as jewellery, rings, and gold coins.”

The investigation is reportedly linked to a bribery case involving the tender procurement for a data centre construction project.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya stated that any attempt to destroy evidence is a serious offence under Section 201 of the Penal Code.

The case is being investigated under Sections 16 and 17A of the MACC Act 2009.
