It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for!
On 28 December, former Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq announced that he was in the midst of participating in the #BotakChallenge. If he manages to raise RM200,000 for 100 laptops in five days starting 26 December, he will go BALD!
Well, it’s been an intense wait but as of 7pm yesterday (30 December), he managed to raise almost DOUBLE the amount, reaching a staggering RM383,000. To commemorate his victory, Syed Saddiq had a live “botak” session with Astro Awani where his mother, Sharifah Mahani Syed Abdul Aziz, was in charge of shaving his head bald.
Syed Saddiq thanked those who donated to his campaign as the money will be used to buy laptops for underprivileged families in Muar based on his “1 Family, 1 Laptop” program.

“Thank you for helping the needy families in Muar so that we can reduce the digital divide in Muar.”
He added that most of his donors weren’t “big donors”. Instead, the average contribution was in the range of RM34 to RM37. Syed Saddiq plans to seek cooperation from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to ensure that the laptops are distributed fairly.
This audit by MACC needs to happen as they need to make sure the laptops provided are of proper durable quality and will last longer than just a couple of months. When asked about his bravery to shave his head bald, Syed Saddiq simply said that this isn’t a matter of bravery, it’s about fulfilling a promise.
“It doesn’t matter, hair can grow back but these contributions are forever!”
Kudos to Syed Saddiq for managing to raise funds for the people of Muar. So, who’s going to start the petition for Netflix to cast Syed Saddiq in the real-life adaptation of One-Punch Man?
