A 51-year-old Proton Wira driver was killed on kilometre 13 of Jalan Lukut-Sepang in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, yesterday (24 June) after crashing into a trailer carrying cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) while attempting to overtake another vehicle.

Sinar Harian quoted Port Dickson District Police Chief Superintendent Maslan Udin as saying that the incident took place at around 3.30pm on a double-line road, which prohibits road users from overtaking other vehicles.

Maslan Udin added that the fatal accident involved three vehicles: the Proton Wira driven by the deceased, a Proton Saga, which the driver tried to overtake, and a Scania G400 trailer carrying the LPG cylinders.

He added that an initial investigation found that the victim tried to overtake the Proton Saga on the double-line road but ended up crashing into the trailer from the opposite direction.

The driver of the trailer tried to avoid the Proton Wira by swerving to the roadside, but still ended up crashing into the vehicle.

The impact of the crash caused the trailer to skid and overturn, causing hundreds of LPG cylinders to spill onto the road. Moreover, some of the LPG cylinders crashed into the Proton Saga.
