Recently, 6 MUDA volunteers have been called up by the police for directly providing aid to flood victims without getting prior permission from the Segamat district officer.

Head of the Youth for UMNO, Bastien Onn had also reminded the co-founder of MUDA, Syed Saddiq to not play politics at times of flood as protocols have to be followed in order to ensure the safety of both the helpers and the victims.

“The reason to get permission is to ensure all the volunteers that come from all over the country are safe from the Covid-19 virus before getting in contact with the flood victim.”

On “playing politics” at times of flood, Syed Saddiq has something to say about it. Just this afternoon (10 January), he has posted on his Twitter account and said that the volunteers are simply delivering the assistance when the flood victims asked for help as they are hungry.

He also shared a newspaper article highlighting how the flood victims had to endure a moment of hunger while waiting for the assistance to be delivered.

“We’re helping the people in need, not playing politics,” Saddiq reiterated.

He also said that if the others want to fight for what’s right, then it should have been done in a healthier way, which is by showing that they can do better. However, Saddiq did not blame the police as he believes that they are only carrying out their duties.

Netizens stand with the volunteers

Some netizens have expressed why they think the volunteers are actually doing a better job when it comes to helping the flood victims.

“The flood victims would not go hungry if the responsible agencies carried out their duties properly. There would be no Abang Viva, there would be no news of a toddler seeking shelter on the roof during the rainy days. Leave the volunteers alone!”
