In the message, the woman, who is a teacher residing at Machang Bubok in Seberang Perai Tengah, Penang, was told off by the e-hailing rider using derogatory remarks about her religion.

According to Sinar Harian, the woman received a notification from the e-hailing app that the delivery rider had arrived at the restaurant.

However, after receiving no updates for quite a while, the woman then messaged the delivery rider through the e-hailing app to ask whether the rider had arrived at the restaurant to pick up the order.

The delivery rider then replied that they were already downstairs at the woman’s address, which was an apartment complex.

While on her way down to collect the food order, the delivery rider sent the offensive message, which read,

Oi, I’m here. If you don’t want to collect your food, don’t order. Pu**mak Hindu”

A screenshot of the message has since gone viral, with the woman lodging a police report on the matter recently.

National Unity Minister urges legal action to be taken against the delivery rider

Following the incident going viral, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang issued a statement calling for stern legal action to be taken against the delivery rider.

Aaron branded the delivery rider’s behaviour as entirely unacceptable, stressing that his Ministry views the incident seriously.

He added that it not only violates the values of courtesy and decency in our society but also threatens racial harmony.

The National Unity Minister further called on all Malaysians to continue nurturing mutual respect and understanding, iterating that there is no place in Malaysia for any form of discrimination, hatred or racism.

Aaron also called upon delivery companies to take stern action against the individual involved and to tighten their employee codes of conduct.

The e-hailing company has suspended the rider’s account

Accordingly, the e-hailing company involved has since suspended the rider’s account and launched an investigation into the incident.

The company further stressed that it won’t tolerate any usage of offensive language or discrimination.
