The residents of Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, are now actively opposing the construction of a Chinese school, SJKC Too Joon Hing, after the location in which the school will be built was originally supposed to go to a Kebangsaan school.

The Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Pembela Islam – PEMBELA took to their Facebook page to share further details into this, as they, along with other parties, had gathered to discuss this matter.

They wrote, “Last night (May 23), an engagement session was held involving representatives of the BK5B Residents’ Association, Pertubuhan Badan Bertindak Bandar Kinrara (BERTINDAK) along with representatives of the Malaysians Ministry of Education (KPM), the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) and the Petaling Perdana District Education Office.”

“The session started with a fact presentation by the Selangor State Education Department, presenting the facts about the need to establish SJKC Too Joon Hing at a controversial site and the protest by the residents in the area. Also presented was the approval for the construction of a Kebangsaan school in Section 5, Bandar Kinrara, with a capacity of 1,377 students.”

They went on to explain how the initial plan for the area was to have 8 Kebangsaan school, both primary and secondary. Though, what was actually built was 7 SJKC and only 2 Kebangsaan schools and 1 SJKT.

“With this proposed addition of SJKC Too Joon Hing in an area with a population density of 95% Malays on land that has been gazetted for a Kebangsaan school, SJKC will increase to 8 schools in an area with a population density of 95% Malays,”

They also emphasised that the importance of building schools for all races were raised many times.

The presentative from the Education Ministry then shared that the decision to build a school is based on the needs and capabilities of the government, and that decisions will be made based on educational criteria for all races.

“The representatives of the residents raised the question of priority because the actual fact about the site is that there are more than 17,000 Malay households who have to send their children to Kebangsaan schools which is far from the location,”

“Kebangsaan schools provide educational space for all races compared to SJKC which only focuses on the interests of 1 race. The need and priority is on the construction of a Kebangsaan school,” they added.

No means no?

PEMBELA went on to stress that the residents of the area are rejecting the construction of SJKC Too Joon Hing at the site.

“The residents’ association also accepted the proposal for the construction of a Kebangsaan school in Section 5 and stated that there is a need to build at least 8 Kebangsaan schools (both primary and secondary) in that area in the future. The National Education Policy should clearly promote schools with full flow of the national language,”

“Residents also stated that they will carry out further action if their demands are not met.”
