Selangor police said four people died at a New Year’s Eve concert earlier this year.

After the incident, the Selangor government plans to review concert guidelines to help prevent drug-related deaths from happening again.

“No to Drugs” signs

Harian Metro reported that Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the state is planning to make “No to Drugs” signs or placards a requirement for concert permits.

He shared that this was one of the proposals submitted to the state government and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) earlier this month.

“Before this, the drug ban at concerts was only stated on the tickets. So, this move will help curb drug use at concerts more effectively. These conditions will now be included in permits issued by local councils,” he said.

“This proposal is not meant to hinder concerts”

Hussein said they also proposed extra measures for concert organisers, and police will be keeping a closer watch during events to spot drug use.

“This proposal is not meant to hinder concerts but to ensure they are held more responsibly, preventing further tragedies, especially in Selangor,” he added.

Back in January, the media reported that Selangor police suggested new concert guidelines after a few people died from taking ecstasy at a concert in Bandar Sunway.

Tests confirmed that stimulant drugs were the cause of death.
