Quarantined M’sians Face RM200 Per Day Fine, Jail If They Break Rules

Medical experts have stated that quarantine plays an essential part in the efforts to curb the Covid-19 outbreak. By being in quarantine, potential Covid-19 patients can avoid exposing the virus to the people around them. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that quarantine should be prioritised and not be taken lightly in these crucial times.

According to Sinar Harian, those who do not obey the quarantine, especially to those who were subjected to house quarantine, can be jailed for two years, fined or both if they disobeyed the order. However, the punishments stated is only applicable for first time offenders. For those who repeatedly disobeyed, they may face up to 5 years of prison, fined or both.

Rule-breakers would be fined according to the number of quarantine days that they did not adhere to. Syazlin Mansor, a lawyer stated that an individual may be fined up to RM200 for each day.

“Section 15(1) of Disease Control and Prevention Act allows any relevant officials to instruct suspected individuals to home quarantine,” said Syazlin Mansor, when contacted by Sinar Harian.

Quarantine in both hospitals and home is believed to control the Covid-19 outbreak. The Covid-19 is now categorised as a pandemic due to its prevalence all over the world. To date, quarantine is one of the most frequent solutions used by medical experts to contain this disease from spreading further.
