Take whatever food you fancy, eat to your heart content and if you can’t pay for it, take it as a gift. Wait, what?!

Yes, you read that right.

According to Sinar Harian, that is the concept applied every day at Restoran Dapur Infaq Ummah in Kompleks Dagangan Indera Mahkota, Kuantan, as a way to ensure those who are poor and needy get to eat properly at the premise.

The founder and the backbone of the restaurant, Badrul Jamili Kamaruddin, said that customers can choose any food that the restaurant has to offer and pay as much as they sincerely want to using a money box at the cashier. This means that you can go there if you are truly penniless and eat for free.

Mr Badrul also mentioned that the restaurant has been operating for three months now. The approach was taken to help those who are less fortunate such as students and Asnaf groups around the area.

“The concept will not give us much profit but it is a necessary step to help the community.”

“We are not worried about losing money because we are confident that Allah will pay the rest of our loss as our core reason to pursue the business is to gain Pahala (merit by Allah for good deeds).”

The business operates every Monday till Friday from 7am to 12pm, and provides naan, goat curry, chicken curry, nasi lemak, sticky rice, vermicelli and various choices of kuih.

Not only does he provide free foods, but this 45-year-old man treats his customers like guests that will bring blessings to his business.

Stated by Mr Badrul, the money that they have collected in the money box will be donated to those who need it through various methods, such as advocating a program for Asnaf and the homeless, working together with numerous Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) every week.

One of their customers, Ahmad Zaheruddin Ahmad Sabri, 50, praised the hawker for courageously taking risks to devote himself to charity.

“I can obviously see that the business is done out of pure benevolence, not to mention that the food here is good… If you have extra money to spare, why don’t you pay more so that you can eat and donate at the same time.”

“You will always be rewarded for any donation that you have made, not only in this world but also in the afterlife,” he continued.

Wow! Hardly any of us could boldly devote our future to fate. There truly is joy in giving, and this man knows the truth of that phrase.
