Given the current state of Malaysia with our rising number of Covid-19 patients, it is clear and apparent that our medical staff and their resources have been stretched thin. In order to face the ongoing outbreak, the Malaysian Ministry of Health has now decided that they will be recalling retired doctors and nurses back to the frontlines against the Covid-19 fight, according to Malaysiakini.

This decision was made in order to reinforce and bolster the ranks of the current frontliners, as more Covid-19 patients are becoming identified. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told a press conference yesterday (23rd March 2020) that the Ministry is targeting to recall over 2,000 skilled healthcare professionals back into action as soon as possible.

“We are in the process of looking at how we can increase human resources, including nurses and doctors.

“What is important now, we are looking at those who already have the experience like nurses and specialists who have retired. They can help us.” he said.
