With a host of sporting events and concerts returning to our shores after the 2 year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, fans are going wild to snap up every ticket possible.

However, certain events have seen a backlash after its organisers have been accused of raising the prices of tickets to exorbitant heights.

Recently, badminton fans were shocked to find out that the tickets for the upcoming PETRONAS World Open 2023 is priced much higher compared to previous years.

According to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), from January 10 to 15, the best shuttlers in the world will all be in the country to challenge for the honours in the BWF World Tour season-opening PETRONAS Malaysia Open (PMO) 2023.

Fans intending to catch these amazing players will be able to purchase tickets for the Super 1000 tournament beginning from 5 December, with prices starting from RM40.

Although it may not seem as much, Twitter users took to the platform to complain about the prices in relation to past editions.

Back in the 2022 edition, prices started from a measly RM25 and went all the way up to RM500. This year, prices start from RM40 and go all the way up to RM700.

Some even pointed out how the premium ticket for all 6 days costed RM680 back in 2022 whilst in 2023, a VIP ticket which is for the same seat as the premium ticket last year for the final day is priced at RM600.

Meanwhile, some users even tagged newly appointed youth and sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to look into the pricing of the event.

“The prices are ridiculous for ordinary Malaysians who earn RM1,500 monthly. Even ordinary people would like to watch badminton in real life.”

What do you think of the prices? Would you still go?
