For the love of durians!
In a shocking turn of events, a durian buffet in Taiping, Perak ended 3 hours ahead of schedule after Malaysian durian enthusiasts flocked to the scene to enjoy the King of Fruits. The organiser, the Perak Department of Agricultural Development for Larut, Matang, and Selama District initially estimated 10 tonnes (10,000kg) of durians would be consumed during the 2-day event.
Within just 8 hours, however, a whopping 17 tonnes (17,000kg) of durians were already consumed, prompting the organisers to end the event earlier after they ran out of supplies.
The buffet was initially scheduled for 4 time periods,
- 11 AM to 2 PM, and 4 PM to 6 PM on Saturday (July 13)
- 11 AM to 2 PM, and 3 PM to 6 PM on Sunday (July 14)
The durian supply ran out before the last session on Sunday. In a Facebook post, the State Department of Agricultural Development thanked the crowds for their continuous support.
With only RM10 as the entry fee per person, it’s no surprise that durian lovers would grab this opportunity to feast on the exotic fruit as much as they could (and want). Children under the age of 5, on the other hand, could eat for free.

In a report by Oriental Daily, most visitors were happy with the durian buffet where they paid a low price for “1st class taste.”
1 of the visitors, who came all the way from KL said she was happy to see Malaysians of all races at the scene enjoying the iconic fruit.
“I think I ate around 3 kilos of durian.”
Another customer also praised the great value and said for a mere RM10, there were also free drinks and ice cream for the customers to choose from.
